Dampers
Aras Power Systems designs and supplies flue-gas dampers — butterfly, louver, diverter, guillotine, shut-off and poppet types — for flow control and isolation in power-plant and industrial exhaust systems. Dampers are engineered for duct sizes from 0.3 m to 10 m and gas temperatures up to 650 °C, with seal-air guillotine and double-blade designs reaching up to 100% sealing efficiency for man-safe isolation.
Codes & standards
Aras Power Systems designs flue-gas dampers to the client-nominated code basis, combining international standards with project-specific operating, safety and documentation requirements.

Our Services
Our engineering and supply scope is structured to deliver safe, efficient and project-specific equipment from concept design through fabrication, site support and documentation.
Design compliance
- ASME and EN standards: ensuring that damper designs meet the project’s mechanical, structural and fabrication requirements.
- Diverse damper types: engineering butterfly, louver, shut-off, diverter, guillotine and poppet dampers for specific flow-control and isolation duties.
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
- Flow analysis: reviewing gas-flow distribution and pressure drop across damper blades and frames.
- Operational efficiency: optimising on/off and modulating operation to maintain controlled flow with minimum energy loss.
Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
- Structural integrity: verifying frames, shafts, blades and supports under temperature, pressure and actuation loads.
- Temperature considerations: checking deformation risks and thermal expansion in hot-gas service.
High-temperature design
- Material and coating selection: selecting carbon steel, stainless steel and coating systems for the process environment.
- Thermal expansion: designing clearances and seals to prevent warping, sticking and leakage.
Actuation systems
- Actuation mechanisms: integrating electric, pneumatic, hydraulic or manual drives.
- Control integration: providing fail-open/fail-close logic, position feedback and plant DCS interface where required.
Documentation and quality assurance
- Technical documentation: providing CAD drawings, specifications, actuator data and installation guidelines.
- Testing and inspection: defining leakage, functional, dimensional, welding and coating controls.

Frequently asked questions
What sealing efficiency can your dampers achieve?
Seal-air guillotine and double-blade dampers can reach up to 100% sealing efficiency for man-safe positive isolation. Final sealing class is defined and verified according to project requirements.
What is the difference between a diverter and a guillotine damper?
A diverter damper routes gas between paths such as HRSG and bypass stack, while a guillotine damper provides positive isolation for safe downstream maintenance.
Which actuation options do you offer?
Electric, pneumatic, hydraulic and manual actuation can be supplied, including fail-open or fail-close configurations and DCS feedback signals.
What temperatures can the dampers handle?
Standard designs cover hot-gas service up to 650 °C, with higher temperatures handled through refractory lining, cooling arrangements or material upgrades.
